So, I’ve set myself the challenge to read all the books on Newsweek’s list of 50 Books for Our Times this year, from Independence Day 2009 to ID4 2010. That’s a book a week with 14 days’ leeway.
I was dismayed to see that I’ve heard of only about a quarter of them, and read NONE. I have been listening to Dan Ariely’s Predictably Irrational: The Hidden Forces That Shape Our Decisions on Audible now off and on for about a week (and recommend it), but it’s been too long since I read for pleasure on a regular basis.
Oh, and just for fun I’m going to read them all on my iPhone using the Kindle app from Amazon.
First up, I’ve decided is Nicholas Carr’s The Big Switch: Rewiring the World, from Edison to Google. I’m allowing myself the option to read the books in any order (they’re not ranked anyhow) though I wonder what I’ll do about the other books by authors I’ll inevitably wind up liking? Given my teaching course load for next year, my student course load, demands of the job, life, and other creative challenges, where will the time come from? Especially given the other challenges I’m setting for myself!
